On February 26, 1950, Fr. Eugene McCloskey, third pastor of St. Anne's, directed the "groundbreaking" ceremony for St. Anne's School. On that cold day, about 150 students and their parents watched with pride, as another milestone in the history of St. Anne's was reached. 

By February 1951, the school was ready to open. Six Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary, an international order of Religious women founded over a hundred years ago, were ready for the challenge of more than 400 students who had registered for Kindergarten through Sixth Grade. The Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary continued to direct and staff the school for the next fifty years. 

In September 1988, Miss Eileen Griffin was appointed principal of the school. She, together with priests, faculty, parents and students formed a faith community within the school. St. Anne's is a well-known and highly respected Catholic school in Garden City, New York, serving a student body from twenty surrounding communities. 

In 1991, St. Anne's was the first Catholic elementary school on Long Island to receive its prestigious accreditation for the Middle States Association of Schools and Colleges. 

In 2002, St. Anne's was the first school to be officially reaccredited, as many of our neighboring Catholic schools have followed suit over the past ten years. Accreditation signifies St. Anne's School has met the Middle States Association's standards for a quality school, reflecting current research and best practices throughout the education profession. The faculty and staff endeavor to inculcate Christian principles in the students and to promote a learning environment permeated by Christian values. Art, Health, Music, Physical Education, Spanish and Technology are conducted by qualified teachers. Special services, such as psychological and remedial Reading are offered to students in need. 

Today, our Administrators, and a highly qualified and dedicated faculty and staff join Pastor, Monsignor Thomas Harold, an advisory School Board, a supportive Home School Association and highly motivated students and parents to form a vibrant school community. Our philosophy holds that a Catholic School is the creation of a Christian Community in which knowledge and intellect are enlightened by faith and shared in an atmosphere of warmth, trust and concern.
