Kindergarten
English Language Arts
Our kindergarten ELA program builds on the foundational skills needed for reading, writing, and verbal expression. These skills include phonemic awareness and phonics, spelling, reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, fluency, and handwriting. We encourage artistic expression of ideas through drawing, painting, and crafts. We use literature to introduce and enhance topics of study including seasonal and religious holidays. Our program goals move at a pace that develops confidence and excitement for learning in our students.
Math
Our kindergarten math program develops the concepts and skills that give our students a solid framework. Topics of study include counting, writing, and problem solving using numbers 1-20, addition, subtraction, two and three dimensional shapes, measurement, sorting and grouping, and graphing. We utilize manipulatives and practical applications to help students with their understanding. Students learn to express math steps and solutions verbally and through drawings. Our program goals help students recognize patterns and relationships of numbers which is part of the future study of mathematical operations.
Science/Social Studies
Our kindergarten science and social studies program helps students investigate and explore the world around them. Our units of study are correlated with seasonal topics including apples and leaves for autumn, hibernation and snow for winter, plant and animal life for spring, and water and sun safety for summer. In addition, we study national and religious holidays. The curriculum includes a weekly science lab with our science teacher. Maps, literature, projects, and field trips are used to reinforce comprehension.
Religion
Our kindergarten religion program teaches students about our Catholic faith through daily prayer, reading Bible stories, God’s role in our life, attending Mass, and practicing the Golden Rule. The curriculum includes a weekly lesson with our religion teacher in our school Chapel.
